Addition + Renovations

Working as part of the design team, directly for American Campus Communities, Drexel University’s development partner, David Mason + Associates (DMA) completed the civil engineering design, construction documentation, and development permitting for the site improvements and new building addition to the existing 12-story Kelly Hall Dormitory at Drexel University.

As part of the site improvements and addition, the civil scope included the design of ADA ramps; stairs; walkways; grading and drainage; soil erosion and sediment control; stormwater management improvements; and utility upgrades to electrical, telecommunications, and sanitary sewers. DMA processed development permits through Philadelphia Water Department, Philadelphia License and Inspections, and Philadelphia Streets Department.

DMA also completed the structural design and documentation for the new two-level approximately 6,700 SF building addition and renovations to the existing Kelly Hall Dormitory. As part of the renovations and addition, structural scope also included support for building modifications and reinforcing and upgraded MEP systems including analyzing existing framing for new equipment loads and floor penetrations for ductwork. The new rooftop units included structural design of new elevated steel dunnage to support a 17,000# chiller and 16,000# DOAS units with access platforms.
