Structural Designer

St. Louis, MO

Our Structural Designer/Drafter performs detailed drafting and support activities related to the preparation of plans, specifications, reports, and other documents for engineering projects within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties. Typical advancement is based on the quality performance of essential duties and responsibilities. Discretionary advancement is based on employee’s actions and accomplishments. This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties:

  • Participate in the drafting and production of design documents
  • Prepare project document in accordance with established client and/or Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) standards
  • Confer with Project Manager and senior project staff to ascertain coordination and critical interface requirements
  • Perform specific work assignments in accordance with established and modified progress schedules and within prescribed budgets
  • Track and document individual labor costs and monitor budgetary costs associated with the work
  • Follow and abide by the DMA employee and safety manuals
  • Completes other duties as assigned

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables based on client preferences and in areas where documentation may be lacking, or limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Possess great organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, etc.) and Document Control Management Software
  • Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex issues
  • Capable of being assigned and managing multiple projects with a range of complexities

Required Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Possess a working knowledge of Bluebeam, Revit, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches and specifications
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and function as a member of a team

Education & Experience

  • Holds a industry relevant Associates Degree or equivalent education from a 2-year college or technical school with 1-5 years of experiences
  • Or holds a High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years related experience

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Able to be seated at a standard workstation for 75% or more of workday
  • Able to use desktop, laptop and/or tablet computer and smart phone for 75% or more of workday
  • Able to occasionally travel both locally and long distance
  • Work performed with typically be in an office environment with moderate noise level
  • Work may be performed remotely based on the company & Divison’s in-office attendance policy
  • Occasional travel to other offices or vendor/company partner/job site locations may be required
