CHA Altgeld Gardens Renovations

David Mason + Associates provided civil engineering services for Phase 6 of the Altgeld Gardens/Murray Homes renovation. The 10-acre project included complete reconstruction of site infrastructure for Blocks 7 and 8, along with gut rehabilitation of all residential buildings. Design services included demolition of existing hardscape and utility infrastructure; new building utility services; site grading; sidewalks and roadway pavement; ADA improvements; recreational facilities; and underground stormwater management systems.

Because construction affected the adjacent residential community, parking areas, pedestrian routes, and recreational facilities were temporarily removed. To support public safety and coordinate construction activities, weekly meetings were held with the contractor, owner representatives, and community leaders. These meetings provided project updates, schedule and street-closure information, and a forum to address potential safety concerns.
