BJC Children’s Hospital Specialty Care Center

BJC, in partnership with Washington University, opened the newest St. Louis Children’s Specialty Care Center in south St. Louis County. The facility features accessible parking and offers a variety of services, including outpatient surgery, imaging services, therapy services, infusion services, laboratory services, a pharmacy, safety stop (child and home safety services), snack bar/coffee and outpatient clinics.

David Mason + Associates was involved in reviewing several concept designs and ultimately generating structural construction documents for the three-story, 77,000 SF Children’s Specialty Care Center. Structural systems for this facility include shallow foundations on a rammed aggregate pier system, composite steel floor framing and steel bar joists / steel beam roof framing. Concrete pads and screenwalls are provided to support and shield the mechanical rooftop units. The Center’s design is warm and inviting for children of all ages, with easily accessible parking and amenities. Design of this structure also included provisions for a future vertical addition.
