Forest Park Nature Playscape
Funded by donors to Forest Park Forever, the Nature Playscape in Forest Park is designed to feature eight activity areas including mounds, a spring, a meadow, a wetland and more. A series of paths and boardwalks connects the distinct areas, creating opportunities for kids and families to climb, splash, build and explore their way through the site.
Key goals of the project are to create a rich, stimulating environment that connects children and families of all backgrounds with nature and promotes their physical, mental and emotional well-being; engages all of children’s senses as they actively explore, discover and learn; provides a highly-accessible destination for nature-based, experiential education; transforms mowed turf into natural landscapes with native and diverse plant species; promotes environmental stewardship among community members of all ages; and enhances the overall Forest Park experience for all visitors.
David Mason + Associates (DMA) provided surveying and civil engineering for the 17-acre site including reviewing plans, providing feedback, and developing cost estimates for SD, DD and CD phases of the project. DMA also provided assistance in preparing permit applications and acted as the Engineer of Record for the project. During construction, DMA provided assistance to the owner in answering contractor’s questions and evaluating contractor’s proposed changes.
