Richmond Elementary School Addition

Working as a subconsultant to USA Architects, David Mason + Associates (DMA) has completed the structural design and documentation for a new two-story, 16,500 SF building addition that includes 5 classrooms, a cafeteria, 2 bathrooms, an elevator and a full-service kitchen.

The new addition is structurally isolated from the existing building, but allows access between buildings via transition stairs and an elevated pedestrian bridge. The addition is a steel-framed structure supporting elevated concrete floors on composite metal deck. The substructure is a reinforced concrete shallow foundation system. Additional scope includes renovations/upgrades to the existing systems, classrooms and exterior envelope.
