UI Health – Outpatient Surgery Center & Specialty Clinics

The new Outpatient Surgery Center and Specialty Clinics (OSCSC) provides a new comprehensive care facility to the University of Illinois Hospitals (UIH) at Chicago medical campus. The new OSCSC is connected to the UIH main hospital via a pedestrian bridge over Taylor Street and designed to house a new outpatient surgery and endoscopy wing and a variety of multi-specialty procedure floors. In order to meet a growing demand, the new 195,000 SF facility allows for the expansion of complex inpatient surgery services at the main hospital facility and accommodates new specialty clinics including urology, pharmacy, and imaging units.

David Mason + Associates (DMA) Civil Engineering services include site improvements, stormwater management system design and permitting, and site utility connections including extensive coordination with existing underground steam tunnels, electrical ducts, etc. Driveways, loading docks, parking, perimeter landscaping, and pedestrian plazas and walkways will be featured on the developed project site.

DMA Structural Engineering services include the full design for the six-story building with basement and mechanical penthouse, as well as the two-story pedestrian bridge spanning over West Taylor Street. The building’s structural steel superstructure features moment frames to provide stiffness in controlling building drift, while allowing program flexibility for current and future needs. Deep foundations composed of belled caissons to
hardpan are required to support the building.
