Missouri Orthopaedic Institute

The Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and the University of Missouri proposed to expand its existing facility located at Monk Drive and Virginia Avenue in Columbia, Missouri. The existing facility was completed in 2010, but the Institute had continued to see rapid growth which required an expansion. As part of the project, a bridge was installed to connect from the second floor of the existing building to the parking garage across Virginia Avenue.

DMA provided civil site design and construction phase services. Key aspects of the project included LEED certification (that included the use of permeable pavements and rain gardens), an enclosed pedestrian bridge, and a cabled vehicle barrier within the fences for safety. While there were challenges that the DMA engineers faced with this project – such as working around existing utilities and big block retaining walls – the obstacles weren’t anything that the experts at DMA couldn’t overcome.
